Where to begin ? A fantastic weekends racing at the premier event of the year. Blackpool Slot Car Club members had another great set of results to add to the trophy cabinet. Blackpool Slot Car Club's policy is to support racers who support the club and so all entry fees for the Nats were funded by the club as a thank you for all the team work and support.

The first class of the weekend was the Production race and BSCC had two entry's, Wayne and young Liam. Liam was unfortunate not to make the final after putting in a very steady drive in the heats, even so a great result for someone who has only been racing for a few weeks. The experience will no doubt help him with his future development and enjoyment of the sport. Meanwhile Wayne on his return to slot car racing after many years entered the final as top qualifier after the heats. The racing was very close throughout with 4 racers swapping the lead for the first segment of the race. John Gooding, Gavin Wills and Murray Tucker all vied with Wayne for the lead. Wayne got his nose in front during the second segment and stayed in front for the next 4 segments, eventually just 3 racers were in contention as Murray slipped back. Gavin slowley closed the gap to Wayne foot by foot until they were within inches of each other but then Gavin dropped it twice on Black lane to give Wayne a lap and a half lap advantage going into the last segment. Wayne having the advantage of top qulifying place and lane choice had chosen his start lane to enable him to finish on Orange lane. A very cool and steady drive in the last segment saw him extend his lead while Gavin was next to him and pushing too hard and John struggling to catch him on the less favorable outside lane. In the end a fantastic win for Wayne winning the championship less than 4 months after returning to the sport, it was made even more sweeter by the fact that Wayne's club mate and last years champion Matthew was able to hand over the ECRA trophy and keep the Rose Bowl in Blackpool for at least another year. The Rose Bowl was first presented in 1974 and has engraved upon it the winners name from each year, three of those names have since gone on to win National Championships and one to win World Championships, no pressure then Wayne :)

F1 saw a fantastic result for Paul and more so Martin in not only reaching his first overall national final but also finishing second, and in so doing being promoted to Premier Grade. Paul was a close 4th after suffering from some poor marshaling (again!) Stephen managed to reach the Main Grade Final and finished 7th. Saloon had no less than 3 BSCC racers in the Intermediate Grade Final, Chris (4th fastest qualifier), Matthew (2nd qualifier) and Wayne (6th qualifier). It was a very close race for the first half with Chris leading for a while only to suffer motor problems that eventually dropped him back to 8th place, a great disapointment for such a steady driver.

Wayne battled through to finish 4th, another great achievment to go with the previous days Production Championship win. Meanwhile Matthew battled through from last place after the first lap to win the Intermediate Grade trophy that his dad Stephen won two years previousley, by a comfortable 4 laps from Martin Jackson the top qualifier and favourite to win today. Martin had won the Production Championship the year before Matthew, as well as the previous days F1 Main Grade title and was to follow that up by winning the Sports Main Grade title the following day, it was some achievment to beat him.

Stephen and a now camera shy Matthew !
On to the Main Grade Championships and BSCC had father and son, Stephen and Matthew representing the club. Matthew was 6th qualifier, again beating his dad who could only manage 7th. Stephen had a rather large accident that left the chassis not as the manufacturer intended and came home a flattering 6th only due to two other retirements , while Matthew with a now rather tired motor after all the heats, semi finals and Intermediate Grade Final came in a very creditable 4th from White lane.
Day 3 and the fastest class, Sports. BSCC had 6 out of the 45 entrys and all racers had a full 8 x 3 minute segmented race to try and reach either the Overall or Main Grade final. 24 minutes of full on Eurosports action ia always a highlight. Chris and Matthew had great races achieving 31st and 28th overall while Martin, Stephen amd Wayne did enough to reach the Main Grade Final . Unfortunatley for Paul gear faliure in the last segment meant he missed out on the overall final by just 3 laps, better luck next time. The Main grade final was a battle of attrition with Martin the first retiree. Another retiree and it has to be said less than great marshaling saw Stephen limp home into 6th place after having the body totally reshaped by a heavy handed marshal leaving Wayne to take 5th place. All agreed it was still great fun though.

Martin presented with his trophy for sports by BSCRA Chairman Rob Lees
